Delas Freres is a winery of tradition and renewal. Founded 160 years ago in the heart of the northern Côtes du Rhône, the winery enjoyed the dynamism of its original founders and their heirs and more recently, the renewed energy of the Lallier-Deutz family, owners of champagne house, Champagne Deutz.

Delas Freres and Champagne Deutz were acquired by the Champagne House of Louis Roederer in 1993. Andre Lallier retired from daily winery duties in 1996, and Fabrice Rosset, a 20-year executive with Roederer, has taken the helm at both Delas and Deutz.

Today, the Delas wines are crafted by a panel of experts headed by winemaker Jacques Grange. Together, the team makes wines that have been heralded for their intensity of flavor and excellent value.

The range covers all the major appellations of the Rhône; it is united by an impressive embossed bottle and sleek labelling that underscores the style. Thanks to their brilliant winemaker, Jacques Grange, Delas offers wines that combine accessible fruit and refined structure with great typicity of the appellation. The result: delicious, characterful drinking from top to bottom, as well as enthusiastic critical acclaim. Even the humble Côtes-du-Rhône is regularly a 90-point wine, and as such one of the undisputed value champions of our list.

The mixed case will consist of 3 bottles of each of the following 4 wines:

Viognier Vin de Pays d’Oc 2010

RSP £10.99

Although classed as a Vin de Pays d’Oc, grapes are grown on the clay
limestone vineyards just west of Avignon in the Rhône. Skilfully picked
early and undergoing a cool fermentation gives rise to lovely apricot and
peachy fruit characters, with a smooth yet fresh spicy palate.

Crozes-Hermitage Les Launes 2010

RSP £18.25

100% Syrah vines grown in gravel granite soils of the south facing Delas
vineyards, all hand picked from low yielding vines. 30% is matured in older
oak barrels, the rest in tank to preserve fresh fruit aromas. Vibrant fruit
of cassis and plums is perfumed with violets along with the tell tale black
pepper of Rhône Syrah.

Côtes-du-Rhône Saint-Esprit 2009

90 points, The Wine Advocate

RSP £10.99

Fruit for Saint-Esprit comes from a small valley in the northern Ardeche, to
the west of the river Rhône. South west facing vineyards are excellent for
syrah. 10% Grenache is added to the Syrah. 30% was racked to oak barrels.
Full of berry fruit, violet, liquorice, and spices. It has a generous
rounded palate and long finish.

Hermitage Marquise de la Tourette 2007

90 points, Wine Advocate

RSP £40.00

Again 100% Syrah from granite and gravel soils of the small appellation of
Hermitage totalling only 134 hectares of which Delas currently own 10. This
Hermitage is sourced from their own vineyards from 3 different terroirs
facing South. The grapes are all hand-picked. All the wine was matured in
oak for 18 months with 9% being new. This new oak adds some lovely vanilla
especially on the nose. With some bottle age behind this 2004 vintage it is
open, complex and refined. Black fruit, herbs and olives dominate the
palate. It has considerable elegance given its weight.
