Region: South Island, Central Otago
Although small, Central Otago is a rapidly developing wine growing region with an international reputation for Pinot Noir. The only inland wine region of New Zealand
and at 45 degrees, this is the world`s southernmost winemaking location. 100% pure New Zealand, cool and stunning, this outstandingly beautiful mountainous
area rises to over 2000m with the vines planted amongst the spectacular alpine scenery. Thesevineyards are also the highest in NZ, and therefore perfect for Pinot Noir and aromatic white wines.
Producer: Bald Hills
The Bald Hills estate was once a hilly sheep station near the old gold mining township of Bannockburn. These slopes are part of Central Otago`s finest and are located between the Cairnmuir Hills and the Kawarau River with inspiring views along the valley towards
Wanaka. In 1997 the Hunt family purchased 25 acres with a mission to make pure estate grown wines that reflect the nature and aspect of this unique site. Only 15 acres have been planted with Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Riesling as these varietals are deemed perfect for this location. This is real hands-on viticulture and Bald Hills is a certified Sustainable Vineyard making beautifully crafted boutique wines.

Tasting
Named after the last rays of sunlight that strike this tiny 2 acre vineyard in the evening, this steep block is trellised and drip irrigated to preserve the natural intensity and mineral style that can be achieved on this gravelly schist soil. Central Otago has a growing reputation for making some of the best New World Rieslings and this great example has a tropical fruit and lime bouquet opening into an exciting citrus palate. Stony minerality , gentle acidity and a touch of sweetness gained this wine a number of top reviews and a Silver medal in the recent Decanter World Wine awards.
Serving Suggestion
Shellfish, Prawns & Oysters. Great with fresh seafood of spicy Asian influence
